Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi technology and the Canon Camera Connect app2, the EOS 77D camera can transfer photos and videos to and from compatible devices, upload directly to various web services and more.
Built-in NFC technology3 means it can connect directly to compatible devices by simply touching the NFC icon on the camera to the device. You can also establish a direct Wi-Fi connection to use your phone as a viewfinder, and check and download previously captured photos and videos. During Live View, simply tap the screen and the camera will focus on that location almost instantly.
With 1. This is particularly useful when establishing focus for portraits in situations where other AF systems may falter. The EOS 77D camera features a flicker detection system that not only alerts the user in the viewfinder, but with the camera's Anti-flicker Shooting function can compensate for flickering light sources, taking shots as close to peak light volume as possible.
This feature is useful for helping to minimize disparities in color and exposure, especially during continuous shooting in sub-optimal lighting situations. When enabled and used with a compatible lens, 5-axis stabilization helps minimize image blur in the horizontal, vertical, and rotational planes. HDR Movie mode captures correctly exposed and under-exposed images, then blends them into one video with more highlight detail for stunning results. As expected, the image quality overall is very good, with nice detail and pleasing color.
Dynamic range at low ISOs has been increased, and high ISO performance is slightly improved, though both still lag behind some competitors. It's a versatile camera for those looking to go beyond a basic DSLR yet don't want to break the bank.
However, with the 77D's mix of amenities and price point, it's quite the enticing option for advanced amateur photographers wanting to upgrade to a more feature-rich DSLR beyond the entry-level category. Like the 80D and the 70D before that, the new 77D is very much a hybrid, multimedia-focused DSLR, with features that, such as its flip-out screen, make it a great choice for both photographers and videographers. In typical usage, this is perhaps not a major downside, but if you like to shoot with fast-aperture lenses in bright conditions, you could find yourself running out of shutter speed in order to get a properly exposed photograph.
On the slow end, the 77D allows for a second exposure and a Bulb mode, just like the 80D. In addition to its metering capabilities, the metering sensor data also works in conjunction with the AI Servo AF II autofocusing system to provide skin tone and color detection for better facial recognition and subject tracking.
According to Canon's specs, the 77D's autofocus system, at least using the central AF point, is capable of focusing down to AF point configurations aren't as numerous as those on Canon's higher-end models, but the 77D allows for single AF point selection, Zone AF with nine zones, Large Zone AF mode with three groupings, and a fully Automatic mode in which the camera with automatically select the appropriate point from the full 45 available points.
AF microadjustment is unfortunately not supported. Regarding still image capture performancethe new 77D offers similar, if not ever-so-slightly slower continuous shooting rates compared to the higher-end 80D. At up to 6fps with traditional viewfinder shooting aka non-Live View in High-Speed Continuous mode, the 77D is just a hint slower than the 7fps claimed by the 80D in our reviewthe 80D got just shy of that spec, at 6.
Not the speediest, but 6fps should do quite nicely at capturing fleeting moments for general-purpose sports, action and other moving subject matter. The camera also offers a slower 3fps continuous mode for times when you don't need to fire off such a quick burst of frames.
Like the 80D and the 7D Mark II, the 77D includes an Anti-Flicker option, which can detect the subtle flicker of certain artificial lighting sources and react to adjust the timing of shots including bursts. Doing so, this helps eliminate the fluctuations in light levels and color casts over the course of a sequence of shots. On the video side of things, the 77D very much takes after the 80D and 70D cameras, incorporating the video-centric flip-out articulated LCD touchscreen and a 3.
However, there is no headphone jack, unfortunately, like there is on the 80D. In terms of video recording features, the 77D, again, includes many of the same specs as the 80D. Video file formats are a bit more limited on this camera compared to the 80D, with MP4 being the primary video format and IPB the go-to compression setting.
With the 77D. It should also be noted that continuous video recording, with any resolution or framerate, is limited to 29 minutes, 59 seconds, at which point recording will stop and must be restarted manually. When your download is complete please use the instructions below to begin the installation of your download or locate your downloaded files on your computer. But with so much choice, where to begin? While your mm kit lens is fine for general photography, its relatively 'slow', in that the maximum aperture available is quite limited. Often offering a much faster maximum aperture, they let in more light, allowing you to shoot handheld in much poorer lighting conditions. Not only that, but the faster maximum aperture means you can achieve pro-looking shallow depth of field effects to isolate your subject. A must for any photographer.
And given that the most common lenses bundled with many of Canon cameras finish at 55mm, something that picks up and continues from that point is a logical choice here.
The built-in image stabilisation system will also help you to capture crisper images and steadier video —particular at longer focal lengths — while the deep and tactile zoom ring makes it a pleasure to operate. Not only do they have much more power than a built-in flash, the head can be tilted and swivelled to change the quality of the light — for example you can bounce the flash off walls and ceilings for a much more flattering look.
Or for greater range you can trigger them via a radio trigger bought separately. Either way you can sculpt the light for a much more professional look, as well as combining multiple flashguns.
Completely clear in appearance, these have no affect on the final image, but the name of the game here is to protect the front element of your lens. Because you need to move the filter up and down to adjust the transition from clear to dark, the square filter system is the only real option for ND grads, and our pick is from the brand favoured by professionals, the Lee Digital SLR Starter Kit. You get a mm filter holder although you'll have to get an adaptor ring for your lens separatelya 2-stop hard grad for darkening skies, and a 2-stop neutral density filter to enable you to use slower shutter speeds, for example to blur movement in water and clouds.
Tripods are one of the most popular and useful accessories for photographers. The most obvious advantage is that they allow for the use of slow shutter speeds and smaller apertures, but they also gave you the freedom to take your time to get your framing, exposure and everything else spot on. The MTXPRO3 is crafted with sturdy aluminium legs and offers a cm maximum height, together with a generous 9kg payload that will support all kinds of equipment. You can even rotate the centre column to angle the camera towards the ground, which is ideal for many macro and nature scenes.
While some cheaper tripods normally come with an integrated tripod head, or with a separate head included there are some pricier options that do as wellmost photographers like to choose their own tripod head to go with their set of legs. There are many cheap cleaning kits available, the majority of which include many unnecessary extras, but a handful of basics from a respected brand is really all you need.
This kit from ZEISS ticks both of those boxes, with a brush, rocket blower, lens cleaning solution, lens wipes and a high-quality cleaning cloth, all wrapped up in a smart carry case. Memory cards vary in terms of how many images and videos they can fit, and how quickly they work. This option from market-leader Sandisk is perhaps the best all-round option for most users right now. When using high ISO settings, the image processing helps keep results sharp and detailed in virtually any lighting situation.Well, not really. The only meaningful differentiators between this model and the Rebel T7i it was announced alongside are the dual control dials, top plate LCD and the addition of an AF ON button. Less meaningful differentiators include an extra eight grams of heft and some general button shuffling.
All that said, we have to concede the name '77D' sounds a lot more serious than either the well-worn Rebel or XX 0D monikers, and after all, this is a fairly well-rounded camera. It borrows an awful lot from its up-market EOS 80D cousin, and yet, comes in at a pretty steep discount. Let's see how they compare in detail. What compelling reason is there to buy the 77D over the T6s? Bluetooth remote. I shoot a lot of macros and a remote shutter release I don't have to stick out in front of the camera is a nice convenience.
If I understand that, it'll make it easier to designate exactly where to focus, again on macro subjects, where focus is critical. Whether those are "compelling" is personal, a function of the kind of photography you do. Sony sensors in Sony, Nikon, and most non-Canon cameras are the "market leaders in terms of dynamic range.
If everyone but Canon is a leader, then no one is. If you've got two possible options and one is better in the category being discussed, you can certainly say one is a leader.
Besides, Sony and Canon aren't the only two sensor makers around - Samsung and Toshiba both make sensors and have the equipment to make APS-C at the very least. Safari nightmare Day one everything fine Afternoon day two apart from fully auto all other programs massively overexposed and no amount of compensation would bring it back Day three exposure correct but again apart from auto cannot change shutter speed past making it difficult to use and impossible on moving objects also continuous shooting not working apart from auto Day four all the above problems on the occasional shot the continuous shooting would work but for one or two pictures and then revert to not working, afternoon of day four focus points stopped working and could not change from single focal point even in auto.
Day five again all of the above except now able to change the focus points A professional photographer was at the camp who has been a cannon user for as long as he can remember and was unable to help with the problem or even begin to come up with a solution.
I am shooting on AF mostly but it happens on MF as well and it also doesnt happen ever picture. Also doesnt matter its it person or a landscape. Anyone ever have this happen.
